Evaluación del impacto ambiental, sociocultural y económico de la actividad turística en Tecolutla, Veracruz Público Deposited
Durante las dos últimas décadas la expansión y diversificación del turismo se ha convertido en una de las actividades socioeconómicas más importantes para el desarrollo, prosperidad y bienestar de una considerable cantidad de países. Sin embargo, a partir de la década de los 80’s, debido al debate sobre los problemas de degradación ambiental, el turismo comenzó a ser cuestionado por los impactos negativos que puede causar en los destinos. México ocupa el octavo lugar entre los destinos de turismo internacional a nivel mundial, con más de veinte millones de turistas ingresados por año a partir del inicio del siglo XXI. Esta posición se fundamenta en una variada oferta de productos turísticos, turismo de sol y playa, turismo arqueológico, cultura gastronómica, el turismo cultural entre otros. Algunos impactos ambientales y socioculturales que surgen por la actividad turística son la degradación de los sitios, aculturación, modificación de la estructura interna de una comunidad y transformación del territorio en cuanto a los usos de la tierra, sistemas de producción, las relaciones sociales y la fisonomía del paisaje. Generalmente, las comunidades receptoras son débiles en la interacción con el turismo, y pueden recibir los mayores impactos negativos. En el municipio de Tecolutla, Veracruz se realizaron muestreos para conocer las características ambientales y se aplicaron encuestas a los visitantes y a los residentes del municipio de Tecolutla, tanto en la temporada alta que comprende los periodos vacacionales de Semana Santa y las vacaciones de Julio-agosto del 2019, y en la temporada baja que comprendió los meses intermedios. Para la evaluación de impactos se hizo uso de una metodología de análisis combinada, que consistió en desarrollar listados de chequeo, matrices y sobreposición de mapas; para la estimación cuantitativa se trabajó con la ponderación de los impactos encontrados. Los resultados obtenidos indicaron que el municipio de Tecolutla cuenta con actividades turísticas durante todo el año, teniendo mayor afluencia de turistas en las festividades de Semana Santa y en las vacaciones de agosto, lográndose apreciar que la actividad turística trae consigo principalmente impactos positivos del factor económico habiendo un aumento del 179% en el caso del empleo y de 176% en el caso de las Actividades turísticas en el consumo de bienes y servicios, Tecolutla depende en gran parte de la actividad turística a lo largo de todo el año. También se presentaron impactos negativos como son la contaminación del agua, aire y del suelo, siendo la actividad de ventas diversas la que involucra los impactos mayores, seguidos por las actividades de los hoteles y los restaurantes. Subrayando que el turismo es un nicho de oportunidad ante los avances tecnológicos y una respuesta al nuevo turismo relacionado con estas, y probablemente con el nuevo turismo post-COVID-19. Finalmente se dan algunas recomendaciones para disminuir los impactos negativos e incrementar la oferta correspondiente al sector turismo.
During the last two decades, the expansion and diversification of tourism has become one of the most important socio-economic activities for the development, prosperity and wellbeing of a considerable number of countries. However, starting in the 1980s, due to the debate on the problems of environmental degradation, tourism began to be questioned for the negative impacts it can cause on destinations. Mexico occupies the eighth place among the worldwide international tourism destinations, with more than twenty million tourists entering per year from the beginning of the 21st century. This position is based on a varied offer of tourist products, sun and beach tourism, archaeological tourism, gastronomic culture, cultural tourism, among others. Some environmental and socio-cultural impacts that arise from tourist activity are the sites degradation, acculturation, modification of the internal community structure, and territory transformation in terms of land uses, production systems, social relations and the appearance of the landscape. Generally, host communities are weak in interacting with tourism, and may receive the greatest negative impacts. In Tecolutla town, Veracruz, samplings were carried out to find out the environmental characteristics and surveys were applied to visitors and residents of Tecolutla town, both in the high season, which includes the holiday periods of Easter and the July-August 2019 holidays, and in the low season that included the intermediate months. For the impact evaluation, a combined analysis methodology was used, which consisted of developing checklists, matrices and overlapping maps; For the quantitative estimation it is was worked with the weighting of the impacts found. The results obtained indicated that Tecolutla town has tourist activities throughout the year, having a greater influx of tourists in the Easter festivities and in the August summer, managing to appreciate that tourist activity mainly brings positive impacts from the economic factor, with an increase 179% in the case of employment and 176% in the case of tourist activities in the consumption of goods and services, Tecolutla town depends largely on tourist activity throughout the year. Negative impacts were also presented, such as water, air and soil affectation, with various local trading activities wich involve the greatest negativea impacts, followed by hotel and restaurant activities. Underlining that tourism is a niche of opportunity in the technological face advances and a response to new tourism related to these, and probably to the new post-COVID-19 tourism. Finally, some recommendations are given to reduce negative impacts and increase the supply corresponding to the tourism sector.
